Stanhopea

[Overview]
An evergreen perennial.
It is an epiphytic orchid.
It has ovate pseudobulbs, and from the tip of each comes one leathery, oblong leaf.
A flower stalk hangs down from the base of the pseudobulb and bears several flowers.
The flowers are large, 10–15 cm across, with thick, waxy petals and a distinctive strong scent.
The petals and sepals curve back upward.

[Cultivation]
Propagate by division or by laying back bulbs.
For overwintering, keep the temperature at 10°C or higher, preferably 15°C.
It prefers partial shade and high air humidity.
Plant it in sphagnum moss, and water thoroughly when the potting material is about to dry out.
It dries out easily during the flowering period, so water generously.
Apply solid fertilizer in spring, and also give liquid fertilizer about once a month from spring to early summer.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
