[Overview]
An evergreen perennial that grows as an epiphyte.
Its character varies.
One to three leaves are borne at the tip of a fleshy pseudobulb.
A slender flower stalk extends from the tip of the stem and bears many small flowers in a ball shape.
The dorsal sepal, lateral sepals and lateral petals are almost identical in shape and color.
The lip is 3-lobed.
[Cultivation]
Propagate by division or by taking plantlets that form on the stem.
It is best kept at 13°C or above.
Grow it in a sunny, well-ventilated place.
Strong summer sun can scorch the leaves, so provide light shade.
In winter, bring it indoors to a sunny spot.
Without enough sun, it flowers poorly.
Plant it in sphagnum moss, fairly fine bark, osmunda or pumice.
From spring to summer, water thoroughly when the surface of the potting material dries; when temperatures fall, keep it slightly on the dry side.
If aerial roots have formed, water them as well.
Apply slow-release fertilizer in spring, and give liquid fertilizer once a week from spring to autumn.
Pests and diseases include virus diseases, spider mites, scale insects, aphids and slugs.
