Japanese name: クロバトベラ
Scientific name: Pittosporum tenuifolium

[Overview]
An evergreen shrub or tree about 10 m tall.
Leaves are simple and alternate, oblong, about 7 cm long, with a glossy surface.
The leaf margins are entire and wavy.
The flowers are solitary in the leaf axils, blackish green with 5 petals, and are fragrant at night.
The fruit is a capsule that splits into 3 when ripe to release the seeds.

[Cultivation]
Propagate from seed or by cuttings.
It prefers sunny, fertile soil that is well drained and retains water well.
It dislikes dryness.
It is easy to grow, but as a plant of warm regions it is not suited to cold areas.
For potted plants, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries.
Apply slow-release fertilizer at the base of the plant as fertilizer in winter.
There are no particular pests or diseases, but scale insects may appear.
