[Uses]
One of the world's three great park trees, when planted in a large garden or park it spreads its branches widely and takes on a stately form.
[Cultivation]
Propagate from seed or by cuttings, but plants grown from cuttings have a poorer shape.
It prefers a sunny, well-drained, fertile site, but it tolerates both dry and wet conditions fairly well and grows well regardless of soil type.
In windy places the tree's shape becomes disordered.
In moist soil the roots spread shallowly and the tree falls over easily.
It becomes a large tree, so it needs plenty of space.
In winter, apply organic fertilizer such as oil cake.
It grows fast and tolerates trimming.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
