Hydrocotyle javanica (Java pennywort, "Obachidome")

Japanese name: オオバチドメ (大葉血止)
Scientific name: Hydrocotyle javanica

[Overview]
A perennial growing in moist places in mountain forests.
The stem is hairless or sparsely hairy, branches, creeps along the ground, and spreads by producing roots from the nodes.
The branches rise obliquely.
The leaves are alternate, rounded-heart-shaped, 2.5–5 cm in diameter and 2–6 cm wide, shallowly palmately 5–6-lobed, with sparse short hairs on the veins and a serrated margin.
The petiole is 2–3 times as long as the leaf.
From the leaf axils at the branch tips, one to several globular umbels emerge in bundles, each bearing 10 or more flowers.
Inflorescences may also appear opposite the leaves on the main stem.
The flowers are very small, pale green, star-shaped 5-petaled flowers with 5 stamens and 2 styles.
The fruit is a schizocarp with the styles remaining.
