Taraxacum alpicola var. alpicola ("Miyamatanpopo")

Japanese name: ミヤマタンポポ (深山蒲公英)
Scientific name: Taraxacum alpicola var. alpicola

[Overview]
A perennial about 10–20 cm tall, found in alpine regions.
Milky sap emerges when the stem or leaves are damaged.
The leaves are simple and basal, oblanceolate, and either pinnately lobed or entire.
A single yellow flower head 3–4 cm across is borne at the tip of a flower stalk rising erect from a leaf axil.
The florets making up the flower head are all ligulate florets, numbering 100–150.
The involucre is dark green tinged with a powdery white, and at flowering time it is 1.5–1.8 cm long; the outer involucral bracts are oblong-lanceolate to ovate, 1/3–2/3 the length of the involucre, and usually do not curl back.
The outer involucral bracts have sparse marginal hairs, and in most cases they have no horn-like projections or only small ones 2 mm or less in length.
The fruit is a pale yellowish-brown, spindle-shaped achene with a pappus, and it is carried by the wind.
