Japanese name: シロバナクサナギオゴケ (白花草薙尾苔)
Scientific name: Vincetoxicum katoi f. albescense

Vincetoxicum katoi f. albescense

[Overview]
A perennial 30–100 cm tall, found in places such as the shade of trees in the mountains.
The tip of the stem extends somewhat like a vine, and the stem bears fine, slightly curly hairs.
Leaves are simple and opposite; several pairs are borne around the middle of the erect stem and are large, ovate-lanceolate to oblong, 8–18 cm long and 3–8 cm wide, with short hairs on the veins and an entire margin.
The petiole is 0.5–2 cm.
The leaves on the vine-like part of the stem are small and bract-like, and bear cymes in the leaf axils.
Because no leaves are borne at the very top of the stem, the whole looks like a large conical inflorescence.
The flowers are star-shaped, 1–1.8 cm across, greenish white to white, and hairless.
The fruit is a lanceolate follicle 4–5.5 cm long; when ripe it splits open and releases seeds with long white hairs.
