Japanese name: ハマハタザオ (浜旗竿)
Scientific name: Arabis stelleri var. japonica

Arabis stelleri var. japonica

[Overview]
A monocarpic perennial 20–40 cm tall, found on sandy seashores.
The stem is erect, sometimes branching at the base, with a mixture of white hairs forked into 2–4 branches and simple hairs.
There are two kinds of leaves: basal leaves and stem leaves.
The basal leaves are spatulate, 2–8 cm long and 0.8–2.5 cm wide, thick in texture, with low teeth on the margin, a mixture of stellate hairs and two-branched hairs on both surfaces, and short leaf stalks.
The stem leaves are simple and alternate, broadly lanceolate to ovate, 2–5.5 cm long, and clasp the stem at the base.
A raceme at the stem tip bears white four-petaled flowers.
The fruit is a long linear silique, borne erect.
