Viola diffusa

[Overview]
A perennial found near human dwellings.
It has a short underground stem.
The whole plant is covered with coarse hairs.
Creeping stems extend in all directions from the axils of the basal leaves, and new plantlets form at their tips.
The leaves are basal with petioles, spoon-shaped ovate, about 2–5 cm long, with low serrations on the margin.
The stipules are narrowly lanceolate and serrated.
The flowers are borne at the tips of erect flower stalks 3–10 cm long, about 1 cm across, and open facing sideways.
The center of the flower is yellow, becoming paler purple toward the edges of the petals, and the lip petal has purple streaks.
A short spur extends behind the flower.
The fruit is a capsule that splits into 3 when ripe and scatters the seeds.
