[Overview]
A perennial 15–50 cm tall, found mainly in sunny places near the coast.
It sometimes produces stolons and forms loose tufts.
The leaves are slender and thread-like, about 1–2 mm wide, and the sheaths at the base are tinged with pale pink.
The inflorescence is erect and 5–12 cm long.
The inflorescence bears many spikelets 0.5–1 cm long.
The lemma is 0.5–0.6 cm long, and its tip has an awn about 0.3 mm long.

[Cultivation]

In sun to partial shade, it grows well regardless of soil type as long as the soil is well drained and retains water.
It tolerates dryness well and is hardy; if the conditions suit it, it grows well even when left alone.
