Scientific name: Tipularia japonica var. japonica

Tipularia japonica var. japonica

[Overview]
A perennial 20–30 cm tall, growing on the bright floor of forests in hills to mountains.
It is a terrestrial orchid.
The corms are narrowly ovate, 2–3 connected like a string of beads, with thin cord-like roots, and produce a single leaf.
There is one leaf, ovate-elliptic, 3.5–7 cm long and 1.5–3 cm wide, with a pointed tip; the upper surface is glossy deep green with a white midrib, and the underside is purple.
It has a rather long leaf stalk.
A raceme at the tip of the thin, upright flower stalk bears 5–10 flowers sparsely.
The flowers are small and pale yellowish green tinged with purplish brown; the sepals and lateral petals are narrowly oblanceolate with rounded tips.
The lip is obovate and 3-lobed; the central lobe is broadly linear with a rounded tip and an entire margin, and the side lobes have fine teeth.
The lip has a drooping spur about 0.5 cm long.
The fruit is a spindle-shaped capsule that hangs down.
