Chondradenia fauriei ("Onoeran")

Japanese name: オノエラン (尾上蘭)
Scientific name: Chondradenia fauriei

[Overview]
A perennial 10–15 cm tall, found in sunny, rocky grassland in the mountains.
It has a short rhizome and cord-like roots growing in clusters.
Two leaves emerge, oblong, 6–10 cm long and 1.5–4 cm wide, with the base forming a sheath.
It bears 2–6 white flowers in a raceme.
Each flower has a broadly lanceolate bract, from the same length as the flower to about twice as long.
The sepals and lateral petals are the same length and form a hood.
The lip is wedge-shaped and very shallowly 3-lobed, with a yellowish brown to orange "W" marking at the base.
The column is short, and the anther cells are separated left and right by a broad connective.
Behind the flower is a thick, short, elliptic spur, constricted at the base.

[Notes]
The Japanese name means "orchid that grows on the mountaintop."
