Thuja standishii

[Overview]
An evergreen coniferous tree growing in deep mountains, which can reach 30 m in height and 1 m in trunk diameter.
The bark is reddish brown and peels off in thin vertical strips.
The leaves are in decussate opposite pairs, flat, scale-like and thick, with rounded tips; on the underside there are stomatal bands slightly paler than the leaf color.
There are male and female flowers, each borne singly at the tips of twigs.
The cones are about 0.8–1 cm long, not round like those of the hinoki, and are broadly ovate to broadly elliptical and woody.
The seeds have narrow wings.
