Angiopteris boninensis ("Ogasawararyubintai")

Japanese name: オガサワラリュウビンタイ
Scientific name: Angiopteris boninensis

[Overview]
An evergreen fern growing in moist, deep forests, reaching about 3 m in height.
The rhizome is massive and erect; because many stipules remain after the leaves fall, it reaches 30 cm across, and the leaves grow in tufts.
The leaf stalk is thick, fleshy and green.
The leaves are bipinnately compound; the pinnae are 65–70 cm long, and the pinnules are glossy, 13–16 cm long and 1 cm wide, with wavy margins and false veins running down from the indentations of the margin to near the midrib.
The sori form 2 rows on the veins near the vein ends, with 8–10 sporangia each.
Narrow pale brown scales are sometimes attached at the base of the pinna rachis.
It can be distinguished from Ryubintai-modoki by the presence or absence of false veins.
Some views treat it as the same species as Hosoba-ryubintai.
