Schoenia cassiniana

Schoenia cassiniana (pink clusters everlasting)

Japanese name: シェーニア カッシニアナ
Scientific name: Schoenia cassiniana

Schoenia cassiniana

[Overview]
A perennial about 50 cm tall.
The leaves are simple, alternate and lanceolate.
At the tips of the flower stalks, many flower heads 2–3 cm across, with pink, petal-like involucres, are borne in corymbs.
The flower heads consist only of yellow tubular florets.
The fruit is an achene.

[Cultivation]
Propagate by cuttings.
It prefers sunny, well-drained, well-ventilated soil.
It can overwinter outdoors in regions without frost.
Take care not to overwater; water thoroughly after the soil dries, and especially in midsummer water sparingly.
It is better to fertilize sparingly.
It may die if it becomes stuffy in summer, so it is good to cut the plant back hard after flowering.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
