Succisella inflexa

Succisella inflexa (Southern succisella)

Japanese name: スッキセラ インフレクサ
Scientific name: Succisella inflexa

Succisella inflexa

[Overview]
A perennial about 60–90 cm tall.
There are basal leaves and leaves opposite on the stem; the basal leaves are obovate to elliptic.
The stem leaves are lanceolate.
Round flower heads are borne at the branch tips.
The flowers are tubular, and the corolla is 5-lobed.
The fruit is an achene.

[Cultivation]
Propagate from seed or by division.
It also spreads from self-sown seed.
It is relatively tolerant of heat, but the plant may weaken in hot, humid conditions.
It prefers sunny, well-drained, moderately moist soil.
In warm regions, it is better to provide partial shade.
For potted plants, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries; for plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient unless summer brings a long spell of sunny weather and the soil dries out.
If base fertilizer is applied, no further fertilizing is particularly needed, but for potted plants a small amount of slow-release fertilizer may be applied in spring and autumn.
If you are not collecting seed, cutting off the flower stalks at the base after flowering keeps the plant from becoming exhausted.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
