Erysimum ×marshallii

Erysimum ×marshallii (Siberian wallflower)

Japanese name: エリシマム マーシャリー
Scientific name: Erysimum ×marshallii

Erysimum ×marshallii

[Overview]
A biennial or short-lived perennial about 30 cm tall.
The stems branch well.
The leaves are simple and alternate, oblanceolate, about 10 cm long.
The leaf margins are entire.
Racemes at the stem tips bear many yellow or orange 4-petaled flowers.

[History]
It is considered a hybrid between Erysimum perofskianum and E. decumbens, among others.

[Cultivation]
Propagate from seed or stem cuttings.
It prefers a sunny, well-drained, well-ventilated site.
It dislikes heat and humidity.
Take care not to overwater: for potted plants, water thoroughly after the soil has dried; for plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient.
For plants in the ground, no fertilizer is particularly needed if base fertilizer is applied; for potted plants, apply slow-release fertilizer placed on the soil in spring and autumn.
Cutting the plant back to about half its height after flowering makes it easier to get through the summer.
Pests and diseases include sclerotinia rot, gray mold, aphids, diamondback moths and others.
