Rhodanthemum

Rhodanthemum (genus)

Japanese name: ローダンセマム
Scientific name: Rhodanthemum

Rhodanthemum

[Overview]
A perennial 10–30 cm tall.
The whole plant is covered with short white hairs.
There are basal leaves and leaves arranged alternately on the stem, deeply and finely divided.
A single flower head is borne at the tip of the stem.
The ray florets around the edge of the flower head are white, pink, cream and other colors.
The central tubular florets are yellow to reddish brown.
The fruit is an achene.

[Cultivation]
Propagate by stem cuttings.
It prefers a sunny, well-drained, well-ventilated, fertile soil.
It dislikes acidic soil.
Take care not to overwater; for potted plants, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries, and for plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient.
Besides basal fertilizer, apply slow-release fertilizer in spring and autumn.
Remove spent flowers frequently.
Cutting the plant back to about half its height after flowering makes it easier to get through the summer.
Aphids can occur.
