Pallenis maritima

Pallenis maritima (Mediterranean beach daisy)

Japanese name: ゴールドコイン
Scientific name: Pallenis maritima

Pallenis maritima

[Overview]
An evergreen perennial about 30 cm tall.
It grows in a mat and is covered with many hairs.
The leaves are simple, alternate, spatulate and thick, with entire or slightly toothed margins.
The flowers are solitary flower heads about 4 cm across at the stem tips; both the ray florets and the central tubular florets are yellow.
The fruit is an achene.

[Cultivation]
Propagate from seed or by stem cuttings.
It prefers a sunny, well-drained place.
It dislikes heat and humidity.
Take care not to let the soil become too wet when watering; for potted plants, water thoroughly after the soil has dried, and for plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient.
Excess moisture causes root rot, so care is needed.
Apply slow-release fertilizer as base fertilizer, and during flowering give liquid fertilizer as additional fertilizer about twice a month to once every 10 days.
Aphids can occur.
