[Overview]
A deciduous shrub 3–5 m tall.
Leaves are simple and alternate, obovate to ovate, 3–8 cm long and 2.5–6 cm wide, with entire margins.
The upper surface of the leaves is waxy.
There is a leaf stalk.
The leaves turn yellow in autumn.
Panicles 15–30 cm long at the branch tips bear pale yellowish-green five-petaled flowers about 3 mm across.
The fruit is a drupe.
After flowering, the stalks of the sterile flowers grow long and become covered with hairs, so the whole inflorescence looks feathery.
