Japanese name: レウコフィルム フルテスケンス
Scientific name: Leucophyllum frutescens

Leucophyllum frutescens

[Overview]
An evergreen shrub growing to about 2.5 m tall.
It branches freely and is densely covered with white hairs, so it looks whitish overall.
The leaves are simple and opposite, elliptic to obovate, about 2 cm long, with entire margins.
The flowers are borne singly in the leaf axils, purplish red, and are labiate with the tip divided into 5 lobes.

[Cultivation]
Propagate from seed or by cuttings.
It can overwinter outdoors in regions without frost.
It prefers sunny, well-drained soil.
It is best kept somewhat on the dry side: for potted plants, water thoroughly after the soil has dried, and for plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient.
In spring and autumn, apply slow-release fertilizer placed on the soil.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
