Corytoplectus capitatus

Japanese name: コリトプレクツス カピタツス
Scientific name: Corytoplectus capitatus

Corytoplectus capitatus

[Overview]
A perennial 60–90 cm tall.
The stem has 4 ridges and bears red hairs.
Leaves are simple and opposite, elliptic, 15–20 cm long, with the midrib standing out white.
The upper surface of the leaf has velvety hairs, and red hairs often grow on the veins of the underside and on the leaf margins.
The leaf margins have fine serrations.
The leaf stalks bear red hairs.
Head-like inflorescences are borne in the leaf axils at the stem tips, each with many flowers.
The flowers are yellow, with 5 lobes at the tip, and are enclosed in a red calyx.

[Cultivation]
Propagate from seed or by cuttings, but the seeds are very fine, so cuttings are the safer choice.
Keep it at 10°C or above over winter.
It prefers well-drained, fertile soil; from autumn to spring place it in a sunny spot, and in summer in cool, airy partial shade.
