Berzelia (genus)

Japanese name: バーゼリア
Scientific name: Berzelia

Berzelia

[Overview]
An evergreen shrub that, in its native habitat, is found mainly in moist places such as along mountain streams.
It branches well.
The leaves are simple, alternate, and needle-shaped.
Many flowers are borne in globular inflorescences at the stem tips.
The buds are green, and the flowers turn white to cream when open.
The fruit is a capsule.

[Cultivation]
Propagate from seed or by cuttings.
It prefers a sunny, well-drained soil.
It can overwinter outdoors in areas without frost.
If potted plants are brought indoors in winter, place them in a sunny spot out of the draft of heaters, and mist the leaves from time to time.
Take care not to let it dry out; for potted plants, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries.
For plants in the ground, rainfall is sufficient unless summer brings a long spell of sunny weather and the soil becomes severely dry.
Apply liquid fertilizer from spring to autumn.
There are no particular pests or diseases.
