A perennial about 10–15 cm tall.

[Cultivation]
Propagate by division of bulbs or from seed.
In cold regions it also multiplies readily by self-sown seed.
It prefers fertile, well-drained soil.
Grow it where it gets plenty of sun from winter through the flowering period, and bright shade after that.
For plants in the ground, under deciduous trees is good.
It prefers soil rich in organic matter and well drained.
For potted plants, from sprouting through the period when leaves are present, water thoroughly when the soil surface dries; no watering is needed after the leaves fall.

There are no particular pests or diseases.
