Glandularia × hybrida

Glandularia × hybrida ("Bijozakura")

Japanese name: ビジョザクラ (美女桜)
Scientific name: Glandularia × hybrida

Glandularia × hybrida

[Overview]
A perennial covered with gray hairs all over.
Because of its poor cold tolerance, it is treated as an annual in horticulture.
A garden plant involving several wild species native to South America, with many cultivars.
The stems creep along the ground, and the upper parts rise upright.
The leaves are simple and opposite, oblong to ovate-oblong, with toothed margins.
Corymb-like spike inflorescences at the stem tips bear 20–30 flowers.
The corolla is 5-lobed, and the flower colors are varied: red, pink, purple, wisteria-purple, white, bicolor and others.

[Cultivation]
Propagate from seed.
It prefers a sunny, well-drained place.
It is easy to grow, but care is needed because powdery mildew appears easily in hot, humid conditions.
