A perennial 6–40 cm tall, found in places such as the shade of trees in the mountains.

The leaf margins have coarse teeth.
The petiole is 0.5–2 cm long.
An inflorescence 2–10 cm long at the stem tip bears rather sparse, downward-facing flowers.
The flowers are white, lip-shaped, and 5–6 mm long.
The calyx is 3 mm long at flowering and becomes 6–7 mm in fruit, with the lobe tips slightly spiny.
