Tubocapsicum anomalum var. anomalum("Hadakahozuki")
Japanese name: ハダカホオズキ(裸酸漿、裸鬼灯) Scientific name:Tubocapsicum anomalum var. anomalum
[Overview]
A perennial 60–90 cm tall, found at the edges of slightly moist woods.
It has thick roots.
It is hairless overall.
The stem branches freely, and the branches spread sideways.
The leaves are simple and alternate, elliptical, 6–23 cm long including the petiole and 3–9 cm wide, with entire margins.
The leaves are soft in texture.
Several flowers grow in clusters, hanging downward, in the leaf axils; they are cream-colored and 6 mm across.
The corolla is 5-lobed, and the tips curl back.
The fruit is a spherical berry 8 mm across and ripens red.
The calyx swells slightly when in fruit, but does not come to enclose the fruit as in Hozuki.
[Notes]
The Japanese name was given because the fruit is bare, not enclosed like that of Hozuki.
