[Overview]
A perennial 20–50 cm tall, growing in forests in deep mountains.
The rhizome creeps somewhat horizontally, and the ascending or erect stem has 4 ridges.
The ridges bear downward-pointing prickly hairs.
The leaves are oblong, 2.5–4 cm long and 0.7–1 cm wide, usually whorled in sixes, with entire margins.
Sparse downward-pointing prickly hairs grow on the midrib of the underside of the leaf.
A cyme at the stem tip bears several to a dozen or so flowers sparsely.
The flowers are white, 2–3 mm across, and the corolla is 4-lobed.
The calyx has long hairs, but there are none between the mericarps.
The fruit is 2–2.5 mm across and has long hairs.
