[Overview]
A deciduous woody climber that clings to rocks and trees with aerial roots.
The leaves are simple and opposite, broadly ovate, 5–16 cm long and 5–10 cm wide, with shallow serrations on the margins.
Leaf size varies with the growing environment, and some plants have leaves only about 1 cm long.
Corymbs 10–22 cm across are produced at the tips of the current year's branches.
The inflorescence has sterile ornamental flowers of a single white sepal around the edge, and many white bisexual flowers in the center.
The bisexual flowers have 5 petals, which are fused at the tips and fall off like a cap just before the flower opens.
There are 10 stamens.
The fruit is an obconical capsule 5–7 mm long.
[Cultivation]

It prefers sun to partial shade and fertile soil that is well drained and moisture-retentive.
It is unsuitable for places where the soil becomes extremely dry or where it receives strong afternoon sun.
Rainfall is sufficient for watering, but during the hot summer period water in the morning or evening when temperatures are lower.
Apply slow-release fertilizer twice a year, as fertilizer in winter and as fertilizer after flowering.
Pests and diseases include powdery mildew, scale insects and aphids.
